Abstract

Introduction:
certain behaviors and lack of perception of risk, especially among young people, can lead them to be victims of chronic noncommunicable diseases such as cancer.
Objective:
to characterize the habits and behaviors of the students of the University of Medical Sciences in Cienfuegos that can influence as risk factors in the appearance of cancerous affections.
Materials and methods:
cross-sectional and retrospective study of 98 students between 18 and 22 years of age.
Results:
the main health events detected in the behavior of the students were the regular consumption of alcoholic beverages and the little practice of physical exercises.
Conclusions:
health behaviors established by university students can have a significant impact on late adulthood.
