Abstract

MOLDES-ACANDA, Maddiel; GONZALEZ-REGUERA, Maricela  and  PAZ-GOMEZ, Noelvis. Nursing care process in severe traumatic brain injury. About a case. Rev.Med.Electrón. [online]. 2024, vol.46  Epub May 20, 2024. ISSN 1684-1824.

Traumatic brain injury is considered a head injury, resulting from penetrating or blunt trauma by acceleration or deceleration forces resulting in one or more of the following situations: decreased level of consciousness, amnesia, alteration mental status at the time of injury, objectively neurological abnormalities or neuropsychological and skull fracture or intracranial injures. In the last decades many changes have taken place in the nursing profession, one of which has been the introduction of scientific process to its activities, which allows the theoretical framework of the profession to be applied. The aim of this work is to present a case of traumatic brain injury and link it to the nursing care process. It was a 16-years-old white adolescent admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Provincial Pediatric Teaching Hospital Eliseo Noel Caamaño in Matanzas. The link of this case with the nurse care process allows a high degree of interaction with the patient, a basic and primary tool in the daily work of the nursing staff involved in humanized care in a critical patient care unit.
