Abstract
FALCON ALMEIDA, Yadira; CASADO HERNANDEZ, Imilla; MACIAS LLANES, María Elena and SANTANA GUERRA, Blanca Rosa. Center of Immunology and Biological Products, an example of science institutionalization at the Medical University of Camagüey. Rev Hum Med [online]. 2009, vol.9, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1727-8120.
This paper deals with the creation of the Center of Immunology and Biological Products as a dialectical process of science institutionalization influenced by social conditions. The specific character of this institutionalization process dealt with dialectics, among other external conditions, and what occurred inside the center. As social processes interrelating with each other and with social values, science and technique promote the development of an approach to explain such relations. Research centers sited in higher educational centers have become important in the formation of competent professionals. The study of the formation processes of these institutions elucidates the social purposes. The creation of the Center of Immunology and Biological Products at the Medical University of Camagüey responded to the potentials developed by the Monoclonal Antibody Research Group; the institutional, the territorial, and the national strategies of the scientific-technological policy; and the context conditions. We demonstrate a concrete case of the creation of a research center in a university context, which is a current practice of institutionalization processes. This case is an important consolidation process of the System of Science and Technological Innovation within the Cuban Health Care System.
