Abstract

Oral lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory disease of unknown etiology. It is considered that it represents an immune answer mediate by cells in which there exits an interaction lymphocyte-epithelium that ends with the basal layer degeneration. It has been reported a high association with chronic hepatic diseases, as hepatitis C, not having a similar researches reports in our country, that's why we propose ourselves to determine the degree association between both entities. It was made the detection of antibodies to the hepatitis C virus to 51 patients with oral lichen planus, who were assisted in the Department of Oral Pathology of the Dentistry Faculty of Havana Medical Institute since 1991 to 2001 and 45 controls through the immunoassay technique. We found 3 patients positive and only one from the control group. However the relation between these 2 disease couldn't be establish probably due to the low rates of serum prevalence registered in our country and may be because the small sample size.
