Abstract

CABRERA-GONZALEZ, Ada Caridad. The argumentative text: a significant content for technical sciences context. Ingeniería Mecánica [online]. 2011, vol.14, n.1, pp. 1-12. ISSN 1815-5944.

Arguing is a human activity that is frequent in our everyday life. However, in the context of technical sciences the expression "Students do not know how to argue" is frequently heard among professors due to the low results obtained when the student has to argue a statement. In some cases attention is focused on the accuracy of the use of the language and the student is asked to argue his answer with concrete examples, but he does not understand what he is asked for. Where is the problem? Has the student been prepared for the linguistic point of view to develop this activity? Has he been given the necessary linguistic tools to operate with the science of language in order to give critical judgement, logical reasoning or any other logical operation? It is a need for future engineers to be able to develop abilities in the use of the argumentative text for the communicative activity they carry out in the context where they develop. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to outstand the significance of this content for the formation of the present and future engineer from the presentation of the characteristics of this type of prose. In this paper levels from the theoretical and empirical methods were used. They offered the study of the topic and its approximation to the particular context of technical sciences.

Keywords : significant content; context; argumentative text.
