MENENDEZ-PEREZ, Alberto; GARCIA-MOYA, Erick Lázaro; SACASAS-SUAREZ, Daniel and BORRAJO-PEREZ, Rubén. Numerical study of compact heat exchangers using parallelogram-shaped vortex generators. Ingeniería Mecánica [online]. 2020, vol.23, n.2 Epub Aug 01, 2020. ISSN 1815-5944.
In the air conditioning industry, the use of compact heat exchangers is very common. The main objective of this equipment is to transfer energy from one fluid to another with a different temperature. To achieve this, it is intended to use the smallest possible heat transfer area that guarantees efficient operation of the equipment. The numerical study was carried out in compact heat exchangers with circular tubes and flat fins, using parallelogram-shaped vortex generators. Metaheuristic techniques were applied to obtain the geometry of a model, which transferred the maximum amount of heat possible and generated the least energy losses due to friction. The numerical model was validated against previously published experimental results. The numerical study was performed after developing an analysis of mesh independence. The main result was a geometry capable of intensifying heat transfer by more than 6 %.
