Abstract

FERNANDEZ-TAMAYO, Mario Luis; MONDELO-GARCIA, Francisco; PARADA-EXPOSITO, Andrés  and  PINO, Alejandro Suarez. Influence of heat treatment on microstructure and hardness of mats in Hadfield chrome Steel. Ingeniería Mecánica [online]. 2022, vol.25, n.1, pp. 17-28.  Epub July 01, 2022. ISSN 1815-5944.

The mats, after the casting process present an austenitic structure with harmful carbides on the grain edges, which must be eliminated. The objective of this research was the study of heat treatments that guarantee the desired structure and resistance parameters for the correct commissioning of mats manufactured in Cuba for armored vehicles. Prototype specimens foundry workshops were elaborated, they were subjected to different tempering regimes at 1050 ºC, with a residence time at this temperature of 30 and 60 min, in addition they were tempered at 200, 400 and 600 ºC respectively with a residence time of 120 min. Chemical composition, metallography, hardness, grain size, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and x-ray spectrometry (EDS) were studied. After the casting process, a quench in water with low tempering at 200 ºC is proposed, guaranteeing the relief of internal stresses and an austenitic matrix free of carbides. In addition, statistical analysis was developed, which has made it possible to produce high quality mats, substituting imports.

Keywords : austenitic manganese steels (Hadfield); austenitic matrix; heat treatment.
