Abstract

PEREZ LOPEZ, Jesús; GARCIA VALDES, Jesús Rosario  and  CUNI GONZALEZ, Benjamín José. System of activities to develop environmental education in "El Jagüey" community. Rev. Mendive [online]. 2017, vol.15, n.2, pp. 214-225. ISSN 1815-7696.

Contemporary world is living in an environmental crisis in which Cuba is involved too. Such a crisis is expressed through degradation in ecosystems and every other social, cultural and economic space where human activity is developed. This problem becomes a complex one due to a lack of environmental education related to the specific situation in communities. In “El Jagüey” community, the problem is seen through a lack of knowledge about environment and factors that cause degradation. The solution for this problem is given by a system of activities structured in stages with the objective of organizing, executing and to assess the community members´ preparation. In doing that, empirics methods of investigation such as observation, interview and survey were used. The effectiveness of the proposal was regarded after it was put in practice involving 150 members for a 540 population. Results speak about a great improvement in acquirement of knowledge, in attitude and environmental values in families and members of the community which has strengthened the importance of the school and other institutions in solving environmental problems that threat the community.
