Abstract
RODRIGUEZ, Miguel Garrido; MARTINEZ, Mercedes Eulalia Sosa and PEREZ, Armín Mariño. Removal of Cu(II) and Ni(II) in aqueous medium using natural Cuban zeolite. Min. Geol. [online]. 2022, vol.38, n.4, pp. 301-315. Epub Dec 31, 2022. ISSN 1993-8012.
Adsorption is one of the methods used to remove contamination in liquid waste. The purpose of this research is characterizing the removal of Cu (II) and Ni (II) ions using zeolite in its natural state from the central zone of Cuba and applying the adsorption method with modeled solutions, in a pH range between four and six units. The adsorption properties of the mineral were evaluated and the adsorption parameters of Cu (II) and Ni (II) ions were determined. The kinetic study showed that the pseudo-second -order kinetic mode describes the rate of adsorption of both contaminants and the Freundlich adsorption isothermal equation is the best fit for both ions. The maximum adsorption capacity of the natural zeolite was 22.148 mg/g and 90.09 mg/g for Cu (II) and Ni (II) ions, respectively.
