The contamination of surface water bodies is an incipient process due to human actions among others, export agriculture, livestock and sprawl of residential areas both urban and rural level. The basin of Lake Izabal and Rio Dulce drains to Lake Izabal in an area ratio of 10: 1, by its nature navigable, is subjected to incipient degradation processes. This research based on historical records of physicochemical characteristics of water evaluated for the years 2005-2014, the state of health of Lake Izabal by the water quality index of the National Sanitation Foundation of the United States of America (ICA-NSF). It concluded that the water quality of the Lake Izabal is categorized as good
