Abstract

BROWN-MANRIQUE, Oscar; MENDEZ-JURJO, Nestor  and  BERNAL ESPINOSA, Mabel. Evaluation of a Micro Irrigation System Powered by Wind Energy. Rev Cie Téc Agr [online]. 2018, vol.27, n.1, pp. 13-21. ISSN 2071-0054.

The investigation was developed in Modesto Reyes town, road to Moron, km 9,50, Ciego de Ávila city. The results demonstrated that the evapotranspiration of the cultivation reaches the highest values in the months of April - November being August the one with the highest water demand of 72,72 mm week-1. The winds speed average is of 5,22 m s-1; therefore the study area presents a good wind potential that allows the pumping of water in the irrigation systems connected with windmills. The multi shovel windmill evaluated has a flow of design of 25,00 m3 d-1, it produces a power of 261,36 W and it has 15,36 hours of pumping in the day. The micro irrigation with wind energy has a tank of storage of 5000 L that allows fulfilling the water demand of the cultivation for the irrigation area established with a grade of satisfaction of 113%.

Keywords : Pumping; flow; renewable energy.
