Abstract

Background: the training and development of intellectual skills is a recognized current researching topic in the particular didactics of biomedical basic sciences. Objective: to elaborate a didactic strategy for the formation and development of intellectual abilities in students of first and second years of Medicine. Method: an observational cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in the universe of students and professors of the discipline Morphology-physiology in Villa Clara Medicine Faculty, in the school years 2012-2013 and 2013-2014. General theoretical methods and empirical ones were applied: documentary revision, questionnaires to teachers and students, observation to classes and techniques of focal and nominal groups. Results: a diagnosis was made of the current state of the training and development process of intellectual abilities in first and second year medical students, which identified didactic weaknesses inherent to teachers, methodological work, students and the micro curriculum; From which it was designed a didactic strategy guided by a short, medium and long range goal planning; as well as specific actions for each transformation area. Conclusions: the strategy developed is a tool with possibilities of application in the discipline Biological Bases of Medicine and responds to numerous complaints of improvement made by different authors, for this cycle of the career.
