Small and medium-sized companies are of great importance for the national economy, mainly because of their contribution to the production and distribution of goods and services, as well as their ability to adapt to technological changes and their great potential in generating jobs. In the present investigation, we intend to know the degree of participation of women in this important sector and what are the results of their business management. In order to achieve this objective, the research starts from a quantitative approach, based on surveys carried out with entrepreneurs in the city of Machala. In addition, a selection and analysis of secondary information will be carried out in research articles, papers, publications in specialized journals, thesis reports, related to the research topic. The participation of women in small and medium enterprises has been gradual. Currently in the city of Machala 53% of commercial SMEs are in charge of women, demonstrating the importance and efficiency of their management in the development and economic growth of the region.
