The phonological awareness in five-year-old boys and girls of the initial level of the Huancavelica district has been the subject of this research, whose objective was to describe the predominant level of phonological awareness in five-year-old boys and girls of the initial level in the enclosure from the district of Huancavelica. The research was of the basic type, descriptive level, of design sample observation (M-O). The population consisted of 573 boys and girls of five years of the initial level in the fenced area of the Huancavelica district. The sample was probabilistic and stratified, made up of 271 boys and girls. The measurement technique was used with its instrument, the Test for the Evaluation of Phonological Knowledge (PECO), which was made reliable and validated prior to its application. The most important conclusion of the research considered that the predominant level of phonological awareness in the five-year-old boys and girls of the study sample was the medium level, being 39.85%. Likewise, there are differentiated levels of syllabic knowledge and phonemic knowledge in five-year-old boys and girls, with the medium level prevailing in the syllabic level with 38.75% and the low level in the phonemic level with 39.11%.
