Abstract

Cuban higher education plays a strategic role in sustainable development. The significant changes experienced by university institutions in recent years have had implications on the permanence of their academic staff (teachers and researchers), educational phenomenon that is a global challenge. The objective of this article is to identify the most visible trends of this variable in the University of Havana from its quantitative dimension in the period 2014-2020. Some theoretical aspects are discussed, continuity or consistent changes in the behavior patterns of selected indicators are analyzed (teaching and scientific categories, sex, age, years of experience, high-level postgraduate training, income sources, continuity). The study envisions the importance of analyzing these trends to better understand and understand this phenomenon based on subsequent insights and provides important elements for the design of an institutional Strategy that favors the permanence of theses these staff for as long as possible with productive results.
