Abstract

SANCHEZ-MORALES, Rodolfo; ROSA-DOMINGUEZ, Elena  and  MORENO-MATA, Maritza. ANALYSIS OF THE RELIABILITY OF OPERATION OF OPTIONAL LAGUNAS PRIMARIES IN VILLA CLARA-CUBA. RTQ [online]. 2011, vol.31, n.1, pp. 23-38. ISSN 2224-6185.

This article presents a reliability analysis of the performance of primary facultative ponds (PFPs) that treats urban wastewaters in Villa Clara province in Cuba. Mathematical simulating of wastewater concentrations of various wastewater components and a methodology developed by Niku et al (1979) are combined for the performance reliability determination of PFPs under study. In this paper, reliability is understood as percentage of time that their effluents of PFPs fulfil with de Cuban wastewater disposal standard NC 27:99. The results showed that all observed PFPs presented reliabilities below 90 % in terms of compliance with maximum permissible concentrations established in Cuban disposal standard for almost all assessed components in effluent wastewater. From these results recommended project concentrations- that take into consideration effluent quality variability through a security factor named Coefficients of Reliability-to be used in traditional and deterministic design of PFPs in central region of Cuba were calculated. Project concentrations make possible to design for a determined level of reliability using traditional models like disperse flux model employed to design PFPs.

Keywords : primary facultative ponds; mathematical simulating; performance reliability; design; project concentrations.
