Abstract

GONZALEZ-MARTIN, Olga Rosa. Challenges and Perspectives of Public Communication in Latin America: Relevance of C4D in Communication Policies. Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2021, vol.9, n.2  Epub July 01, 2021. ISSN 2308-0132.

During the last decade, political communication in Latin America has been mediated by three elements: the state of the system of public communication, different communication laws passed by progressive governments and Communication for Development (C4D) and social change. However, some of the achievements regarding rights to information and communication have basically disappeared with the arrival of new governments and concentration of media ownership is still a reality. Therefore, I wonder what are the challenges the Left and the social movements face today when different governments are in power. Why is C4D and social change more relevant than ever? To answer to these questions is the purpose of the article.

Keywords : Latin America; public communication; communication for development (C4D); communication for social change.
