Abstract

JARPA ARRIAGADA, Carmen Gloria; DUBOY LUENGO, Mitzi  and  LEAMAN HASBUN, Sady. Recovery of Historical Memory in Chillan's Vicente Pérez Rosales Settlement: The Fight for their Rights and Political Conscience. Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2021, vol.9, n.2  Epub July 01, 2021. ISSN 2308-0132.

This article presents the process of recovery of historical memory developed by the Center for Intervention and Social Research (CIISETS), with inhabitants of the town of Vicente Pérez Rosales, in Chillán (Chile). The historical context in which the struggle for one’s own housing was born in this city is situated; the methodological process carried out to reconstruct the different historical elements that combine the beginning and the consolidation of the land grabs is described; analyzes the theoretical components that question the hegemonic logics of knowledge construction; and discusses the ethical-political implications for the praxis of social work, from a critical and emancipatory perspective. By way of conclusion, we reflect on the process carried out and its implications for critical social work; the population movement for housing, and its correlation with participation and political consciousness; and, finally, the performance of public universities in the generation of situated knowledge.

Keywords : historical memory; social intervention; settlements movement; social work.
