Within the environmental implications, the unsustainable expansion of urban land consumption in cities puts pressure on land and natural resources; Thus, it translates from the social into the development of informal and unplanned settlements. The objective of the research was to analyze the environmental and social consequences of the urban expansion of the city of Manta directed to the canton of Montecristi in the province of Manabí in Ecuador. It was developed through a descriptive methodology with a qualitative approach, based on documentary review and non-participant observation through the field visit, these allowed to identify among the main findings, the pressure exerted by the construction of spontaneous growth houses on deciduous forests that are evidenced in deforestation processes due to new uses and the conurbation with the canton of Montecristi represented by a spatial development and demographic.
