The Technological University of Havana has the mission of training an engineer that meets the expectations demanded by the economy of the country. The general objectives of the program of the Preparation for the Defense discipline state: “to construct in the students a vision concerning the security and national defense and their role as professionals… When developing the discipline by the teachers of the Military Teaching Department in this institution, it has been confirmed through class observations, revision of previous exams, as well as the results of the students that the professors elaborate the evaluations without consulting the objectives of the career and the discipline, resulting in conceptual inaccuracy in their formulation and the contextualization with the profession. The objective of this article is to present results related to the implementation of evaluations corresponding to intellectual skills that allow achieving the professionalization of the discipline in the career by giving answers to questions which include situations that can be solved putting into practice the knowledge, abilities and values acquired through the discipline. The results of the students’ evaluations as well as the answers given to the stated situations evidenced their better understanding of the relation between the subject and their professional performance and how their specialty can contribute to the preparation of the economy for the country defense.
