Abstract

LLORENTE PENDAS, José Luis; SUAREZ NIETO, Carlos; MACHIN GONZALEZ, Victoriano  and  MORO LEON, Manuel. Cirugía endoscópica nasal en complicaciones orbitarias por sinusitis. Rev Cubana cir [online]. 1999, vol.38, n.3, pp. 184-190. ISSN 1561-2945.

The complications resulting from infections of the paranasal sinuses may rarely produce ocular injuries. These affections are classically approached by open techniques with the subsequent sequelae and aesthetic defects. Nasal endoscopic evolution allows at present an efficient and safe management whithout the inconveniences of the open techniques. 11 patients with orbital complications caused in 6 cases by complicated sinusitis and in 5 by mucoceles of the paranasal sinuses that provoke an ocular clinic (exophtalmos, diplopia, and reduction of visual acuity) and that were treated by endoscopic nasal surgery with general anesthesia are presented. A satisfactory evolution was observed in all cases

Keywords : SINUSITIS [complications]; MUCOCELE [complications]; ORBITAL DISEASES [surgery]; SURGICAL PROCEDURES; ENDOSCOPIC [methods].
