Abstract

LACERDA GALLARDO, Ángel J; ESTENOZ ESQUIVEL, Juan C  and  BORROTO PACHECO, Rigoberto. Metástasis cerebral: Estudio clinicoquirúrgico y anatomopatológico. Rev Cubana cir [online]. 2000, vol.39, n.2, pp. 103-107. ISSN 1561-2945.

An observational-descriptive study of 23 patients diagnosed with brain metastasis who died in «Captain Roberto Rodríguez» General Teaching Hospital from January 1986 to December 1996 was undertaken. The neurological focalization signs were the most found way of presentation accounting for 47.83 % of patients whereas carotid angiography, 43.48 % and CT with 26.09 % of patients were the most used diagnostic tests. Metastasis in the form of multiple foci prevailed in 56.52 % of cases and lung cancer was the most found primitive site accounting for 52.17 %. The combined surgical treatment showed the highest survival rate in these cases (10.5 months)
