A retrospective and descriptive study of patients with diffuse bacterial peritonitis for 4 years, who were cared for in the Surgery Service of "Joaquín Albarrán" Clinico-Surgical Teaching Hospital. Mortality from diffuse peritonitis represented 47.5% of the sample. In relation to global mortality of the Surgical Service, diffuse peritonitis represented 12.1% amd 67.5% in patients aged over 60 years. The perforated gastroduodenal ulcer and suture dehiscence were the most frequent causes of diffuse peritonitis. The close method was used in 33 patients
