Abstract

An observational descriptive research was made in order to know the behavior of major surgery applied to outpatients from the Service of General Surgery of the "Capitán Roberto Rodriguez Fernández" General Teaching Hospital, in Morón, from January 1st, 1996, to June 30th, 1998. Most of the cases of both sexes were 15-44 years old. Inguinal hernia was the most frequent affection and, therefore, the most performed operation. 10.5% of the operated on individuals had associated diseases. Spinal anesthesia was used in 61.8% of those who underwent surgery. 2.2% had complications and just 0.4% needed hospitalization. 100% of the patients were followed up by the specialized surgery department and the family physician. The method had good acceptation in 99.6% of the investigated patients
