Arterial hypertension increases in an unacceptable way the risk in patients receiving anesthesia. Therefore, a meticulous treatment is necessary before surgery in order to control it. The premedication agents with which better results are obtained are stressed. An updated review of the techniques and anesthetics used in the hypertensive patient is made. The updated postoperative medical treatment as well as the treatment of the crisis of arterial hypertension during anesthesia are dealt with
