Abstract

A descriptive study of the results of esophagocoloplasty was conducted in 37 patients that received attention at the Service of General Surgery of “General Calixto García” Teaching Hospital (1989 - 2002) aimed at knowing the postoperative impact on the short and long term. The commonest complication was the dehiscence of the cervical anastomosis (22.2%), followed by stenosis at this level (37.4 %). Mortality affected 16.2 % of the casuistics, whereas 54.8 % of the survivors presented good functional results
