Abstract

GONZALEZ ORTEGA, José María; MORALES WONG, Mario Miguel; LOPEZ CUEVAS, Zoraida  and  DIAZ VALDEZ, Marilín. Prognostic factors of breast cancer. Rev Cubana Cir [online]. 2011, vol.50, n.1, pp. 130-138. ISSN 0034-7493.

The prognostic factors must to be differentiated of the predictive ones. A prognostic factor is any measurement used at moment of the surgery correlated with the free interval of disease or global survival in the absence of the systemic adjuvant treatment and as result is able to correlate with the natural history of the disease. In contrast, a predictive factor is any measurement associated with the response to a given treatment. Among the prognostic factors of the breast cancer are included the clinical, histological, biological, genetic and psychosocial factors. In present review of psychosocial prognostic factors has been demonstrated that the stress and the depression are negative prognostic factors in patients presenting with breast cancer. It is essential to remember that the assessment of just one prognostic parameter is a help but it is not useful to clinical and therapeutic management of the patient.

Keywords : Prognostic factors; predictive factors; breast cancer.
