Abstract

Trauma occurs with defined patterns that identify risk factors as gender (male), age (the end of life), socioeconomic stratus (low), use of dangerous and addictive substances, psychological problems and poor education related to safety. Mortality from severe traumatic injuries remains high. Early assessment of trauma severity allows proper and immediate treatment of the injured patient, as well as improving prognosis and achieving that most of patients are alive at discharge. For these reasons, it is a topical issue continue to deepen on its cognitive aspects in general and those related to the main characteristics of severe trauma patients in particular. Decrease in mortality by this cause can be only achieved with highly trained multidisciplinary teams and resources for pre and post hospital care.
