Abstract

A prospective cross-sectional study of 1280 students (679 boys and 601 girls) aged 12-14 years-old from high schools located in San José de las Lajas municipality, La Habana province was conducted. The objective was to find out types, prevalence and etiology of traumatic dental injures in upper anterior teeth. Andreassen´s classification was used to determine the type of dental fracture. Simple enamel fracture predominated (63.1%). The main cause of dental injures was fall (75.3%) followed by collisions with persons or objects (10,3%). Boys experienced more injures than girls (63,2 vs. 36,7%) did. The most affected tooth was right central incisor (47,4%). The majority of students (77,1%) that suffered dental injures did not go to a dental clinic to be treated.
