Abstract

DIAZ, Marizoila et al. Effects of corrosion in the marginal sealing of the tooth-amalgam inferface: An in vitro study . Rev Cubana Estomatol [online]. 2008, vol.45, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-297X.

OBJECTIVE: to evaluate the tooth-amalgam interface in restorations with high copper content corroded in vitro. METHODS: 20 sound premolars restored with amalgam were used. They were observed on the previous scanning electronic microscope and later on they were subjected to a corrosion process induced with a solution of sodium chloride and acetic acid for 11 weeks. RESULTS: 80 % of the gaps of the interface measured from the mesiovestibular angle and 85 % of the occlusal vestibular middle point increased, with P=0.022 and P=0.006, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: This way, under the conditions of an in vitro study, it was proved that corrosion influences negatively on the self-sealing capacity of the amalgam with high copper content
