Abstract

VASALLO SELLEK, Marta Amarilys; CASADESUS RODRIGUEZ, Damián; HERNANDEZ MEJIAS, Leidiana  and  BEN MOHAMED, Mohamed. Eficacia de una solución de polietilenglicol en la preparación del colon: Estudio preliminar. Rev Cubana Farm [online]. 2002, vol.36, n.1, pp. 50-55. ISSN 1561-2988.

A preliminary study was conducted with 50 patients that were seen at the Coloproctology Consulting Room of "General Calixto García" Teaching Hospital to undergo selective colon surgery due to different reasons. The sample was divided into 2 groups: one was prepared with mannitol solution 0.1 % and the other with polyethylene glycol (PEG) solution. Both groups were compared as regards age and sex and no significant differences were found between them. The number of normal patients in the preoperative and of well prepared in the transoperative was statistically significant in the group that received PEG solution (p<0.05). The adverse effects and the complications predominated in the group prepared with mannitol solution 0.1 %. The intestinal transit was reestablished faster in the group that was administered PEG. The use of PEG solution is recommended for colon preparation.
