ESPINOSA ROCA, Alfredo and ESPINOSA BRITO, Alfredo. Factores de riesgo asociados en los fumadores: Resultados de la Medición inicial del Proyecto Global de Cienfuegos. Rev cubana med [online]. 2001, vol.40, n.3, pp. 162-168. ISSN 1561-302X.
A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with an equiprobabilistic sample (by age and sex) that included 1 634 subjects aged 15 and over corresponding to the initial measurement of the Global Project of Cienfuegos. A prevalence of 33 % of habitual smokers was found. A higher prevalence of smoking was observed in those men aged 35-44, who did not have a university degree, were separated/divorced, had less house appliances, drank more alcohol, did not usually have breakfast, had a radial pulse at rest ³ 75/min and did not practice protective exercises. It was stressed that the presence of other associated factors in smokers may increase even more the risks of smoking for health
