REMUNAN BOUE, Carmen  and  ALVAREZ RODRIGUEZ, Jorge Luis. Coma hiperosmolar. Rev cubana med [online]. 2001, vol.40, n.3, pp. 189-194. ISSN 1561-302X.

A detailed and updated review of the diabetic emergency with the highest mortality, the hyperosmolar nonketotic coma, is presented. The elements to be considered in its definition and the main clinical aspects are stressed. The risk factors contributing to its bad prognosis, the most frequent complications and the physiopathology of this status are mentioned. Emphasis is made on the importance of knowing the fundamental pillars of medical treatment and, within them, of achieving the stabilization of the circulatory state. The significance of diabetis mellitus education in the prevention of complications of this disease is also underlined
