Abstract

GRONING ROQUE, Ernesto et al. Characterization of a group of hypertensive patients over 50 with associated ischemic heart disease. Rev cubana med [online]. 2004, vol.43, n.5-6, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-302X.

This paper was made due to the little information existing about arterial hypertension and associated ischemic heart disaease. It was found a high percentage of patients (39,01 %) with left ventricular hypertrophy that appeared as a result of arterial hypertension (a characteristic of these patients is that they did not have a controlled arterial pressure), and it is a strong predictor of future complications. Low percentages of abnormal coronariography (9. 11 %), revascularization surgery (1.42 %), and angioplasty (2,14 %) were observed. A high number of patients with angina pectoris (82.23 %) was reported. As this is a subjective symptom, it may be subjected to a great variability. The existance of hyperlipidaemia was corroborated in 34.41 %; however, only 8.4 % received lipid lowering treatment. A comparison with other papers was made, and it was proved that there were a multiracial relation of the population and a better man/woman relation in this paper.

Keywords : Arterial hypertension; ischemic heart disease.
