Abstract
HERNANDEZ PERERA, Julio César et al. Hepatopulmonary syndrome: A case report and review. Rev cubana med [online]. 2005, vol.44, n.1-2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-302X.
It is known that the hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) occurs when hypoxemia is secondary to pulmonary microvascular vasodilation in patients with hepatic diseases or with portal hypertension. It should be considered in the differential diagnosis of dyspnea and hypoxemia. A review of the entity was made after presenting a 10-year-old patient that received medical attention for suffering from cryptogenetic cirrhosis and severe hypoxemia. The diagnosis was attained after performing constrast transthoraxic echography.
Keywords : Hepatopulmonary syndrome; hepatic cirrhosis; hypoxemia; portal hypertension; liver transplantation.
