Abstract

CABALE VILARINO, María Beatriz; SANCHEZ SERRANO, Daniel  and  FLORES SANCHEZ, Amaury. Prevalence of the metabolic syndrome in dyslipidemic patients. Rev cubana med [online]. 2006, vol.45, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-302X.

270 patients that received medical attention at the Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular surgery were studied to determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in dyslipidemic individuals. 14 were diagnosed, according to the WHO criteria. The prevalence found was 5.18 %, which was more common in females. It was observed that the components of the metabolic syndrome were more frequent in women, although with no significant differences, and that the prevalence increased parallely to age in the case of males. It was proved that the prevalence detected in our study did not agree with the repòrted for international studies.

Keywords : Metabolic syndrome; dyslipidemias; ischemic heart disease.
