Abstract
VERA GONZALEZ, Manuel and ORLANDI GONZALEZ, Neraldo. Insulin analogs, a new hope. Rev cubana med [online]. 2008, vol.47, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-302X.
It has been discovered that insulin improves the prognosis of life of the persons suffering from diabetes; however, an adequate metabolic control has not been attained yet. We all agree that up to now diabetic patients have received the inadequate drug at the wrong time and at an inappropriate dose. Once the regular human insulin is administered, it takes a time to act due to its molecular structure in hexamerous form. On modifying the molecular structure by recombinant technology, the insulin analogs appear with a better and stabler absorption. The different insulin analogs of short and prolonged action are described in this review, as well as the pharmacokinetics of each of them. Their action is compared with that of human insulin.
Keywords : Analogs; insulin; pharmacokinetics.
