Abstract

Important aspects of the national program of attention to alcoholism were exposed after 33 years of work at the Psychiatric Hospital of Havana, a National Reference Centre for the attention to this kind of patients. Significant aspects of the national program of attention to this toxicomany in Cuba, whose present global indicators show that at about 5 % of the population aged 16 or over suffer from alcoholism were expressed. The conceptual framework, the basic principles, the organizative norms, the methods and the resources that are part of the program were dealt with. The high demand of spirituality, ethics and humanism necessary for the successful development of the rehabilitative management were stressed.
