Abstract

The results of the application of the major ambulatory surgery of the pediatric maxillofacial patient at the "Carlos Manuel de Céspedes" Provincial General Teaching Hospital, in Bayamo, during one year (1993) are exposed. 64 % of the patients were operated on by this procedure, and 70.8 % of the series were administered general anesthesia. The exeresis of the impacted tooth was the most frequent surgical procedure with 31.5 %. The results are discussed and compared with those of other authors. As regards the concept day-patient, there was a significant saving for the institution of $ 16 450,56. 100 % of the relatives prefer this method to the habitual one.
