Abstract

A prospective study on 193 pediatric patients was carried out. Patients attended for the first time the outpatient service of Maxillofacial Surgery at "Carlos Manuel de Céspedes" General Provincial Teaching Hospital, Bayamo, during January 1, 1994-December 31, 1994. All patients presented with oral and facial disorders. Subjects in the age group of 10-14 years and males were found to be predominant and the greatest frequency was found among subjects from rural areas. Impacted teeth ranked first place among oral and facial disorders detected. From the patients studied 47.2 % was admitted to hospital. Results obtained are discussed and they are compared with those found in the medical literature revised.
