Abstract

MENA MIRANDA, Vivian R.. Intestino de estrés. Rev Cubana Pediatr [online]. 2002, vol.74, n.2, pp. 168-1177. ISSN 1561-3119.

Intestine is considered to be a major reservoir of germs in the body although it also plays a fundamental role in nutrition and immune regulation. Intestinal ischemia is a predisposing factor of multiple organ failure because when the blood fluid is redistributed to assure perfusion of vital organs, inflammation mediators and endotoxins are released, which are capable of unleashing a systemic inflammatory response syndrome with severe hemodynamic disturbances. Perfusion and early enteral nutrition are still considered the two most important aspects in the prevention of stress intestine.

Keywords : INTESTINAL DISEASES; MULTIPLE ORGAN FAILURE; ENTERAL NUTRITION; PERFUSION; RISK FACTORS; STRESS.
