Abstract

LOPEZ PEREZ, Irma Rosa. Heredity in asthma . Rev Cubana Pediatr [online]. 2008, vol.80, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3119.

Asthma is a complex disease associated with a high prevalence of allergy. Both, asthma and allergy are caused by complex interactions of the genoma with the environment. It is a challenge to investigate the bases of genetic susceptibility in asthma and atopy, since there are multiple genetic and environmental factors that interact to modulate their heterogeneous clinic expression. The expression of the disease is even more heterogeneous if we consider aspects such as severity, natural evolution or the response to treatment. We proposed to refer to those aspects related to heredity in asthma, taking into account the importance of interpreting this genetic participation in the understanding of the physiopathology underlying in the natural history of asthma, in its severity and in the response to treatment. This analysis will allow us to follow efficient therapeutic conducts from the very emergence of asthma.

Keywords : Asthma; heredity; complex disease; heterogeneous clinical expression; genetic polymorphism; susceptible genes; candidate genes.
