Human papillovirus infection cause alterations in the scamous epithelium. Several types of them are related to pre-malignant and malignant lesions in the cervix. At present, various types of therapies have been used worldwide to treat this disease. Several specialists from the teaching gynecological and obstetric hospital of Guanabacoa, in the face of the high incidence of the virus in a group of middle-aged women, decided to assess the usefulness of interferon as a choice of treatment. A prospective longitudinal study of 72 patients histologically diagnosed with human papillomavirus was made; 36 of them were treated with an homeopathic tablet of 100mg of recombinant alpha interferon which was administered beneath the tongue for 24 weeks whereas the group control, which was also affected by the virus, received no interferon. Both groups were applied vitamin-based therapy. Risk factors and reliability of diagnostic means were evaluated for all the patients. The cyto-colposcopic correlation was high. The response to treatment was regarded as good in the studied group, thus interferon in the above-mentioned form could be a choice of treatment for human papillomavirus infection.
