Abstract
VAZQUEZ NIEBLA, Juan Carlos; VAZQUEZ CABRERA, Juan and NAMFANTCHE, Julio. Association between blood hypertension during pregnancy, low birthweight and some results of pregnancy and delivery. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2003, vol.29, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.
A study was carried out on 415 pregnant patients with blood hypertension, who gave birth at "América Arias" hospital from October 1988 to October 1999, and a randomized control group of 450 non-hypertensive pregnant women. The frequency of newborns with low birthweight was estimated in both groups. The incidence of low birthweight in the hypertensive group was 22.16%. In pre-eclampsic patients, the frequency of low birthweight was 2,27 higher than that of the normotensive (preterm 1,83, and intrauterine growth retardation 2,24). Cesarean ratio was more frequent by 2,55 times whereas low Apgar score at a minute in neonates was 2.55 more frequent than in newborns from mothers without preeclampsia. In the group of chronic hypertensive was 1,46 higher and cesarean section was performed 1,27 times more frequently. It was concluded that low birhweight newborn and their complications are more frequently encountered in hypertensive pregnant women.
