Abstract

SAEZ CANTERO, Viviana; PUJADAS RIOS, Xiomara  and  GARCIA MAZORRA, Milagros. Pseudoxanthoma elasticum and pregnancy: A case report. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2007, vol.33, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.

Pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE) is a rare genetic disorder of the fibrillar conjunctive tissue characterized by cutaneous, ocular and vascular  lesions secondary to degeneration and fragmentation of the elastic fibers. Most of the literature contains reports of severe complications during pregnancy, which is recommended to be avoided among carrier women. It is reported the case of  a 21-year-old woman affected by EPX that had a female newborn by cesarean section at 33 weeks after a gestation without worsening of the disease. The literature available on this topic was reviewed.

Keywords : Pseudoxanthoma elasticum; pregnancy.
