Abstract

FELIPE MORAN, Armando; DE JONGH DIAZ, Luis F.; SOLOMON CARDONA, Maité  and  FERNANDEZ MELO, Ramses. Clinical imaging study and surgical results in 562 patients operated on of lumbar disc herniation. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 1998, vol.27, n.2, pp. 79-84. ISSN 1561-3046.

The medical histories of 562 patients operated on of lumbar disc herniation at the «Carlos J. Finlay» Military Teaching Hospital from January, 1988 to March, 1997, were studied. The time of evolution of the symptone before the surgical procedure was of over 3 menths and the lumbo-sciatic pain prevailed among them. On physial examination, Laségue’s sign was present in 90.6 % of the patients, followed by Bragar’s sign with 79.9 %. The dysfunction of the Achilles reflex predominated over the rotular one with 48 and 7.3 %, respectively. L4-L5 was the most affected disc space. Its highest frequency was observed in those aged 30-39. Better postoperative evolutive results were obtained when early operations were performed, as well as in those cases with extruded discs.
