Abstract

NODARSE HERNANDEZ, Rafael  and  BRAVO PEREZ, Rigoberto. Clinical and microbiological aspects in an immunocompetent patient with cryptococcosis of the central nervous system. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 1999, vol.28, n.1, pp. 67-72. ISSN 1561-3046.

The case of a young immunocompetent patient suffering from cryptococcosis with localization in the central nervous system that was attended st the "Dr. Luis Diaz Soto" Higher Institute of Military Medicine was presented. This patient initially had acute meningoencephalitis, which later evolved to chronic encephalitis with cerebral sequelae. The mycotic cause of the process was demonstrated by a microbiological study of the cerebrospinal fluid in which the presence of Cryptococcus neoformans as a causal agent was diagnosed. No other localizations of the fungus were observed in the patient. Clinical and microbiological aspects of the disease were described and updated.

Keywords : CRYPTOCOCCOSIS [diagnosis]; ENCEPHALITIS.
