Abstract

CABRERA ROSELL, Pablo et al. Utilidad de un sistema de puntuación para el diagnóstico del daño múltiple de órganos. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2003, vol.32, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3046.

The experiences of a prospective and longitudinal study conducted among dead adults are presented. The frequency of multiple organ failure was obtained by using a scoring system for diagnosing this entity. The information was collected by reviewing autopsies of adults performed at "Dr. Luis Díaz Soto" Military Central Hospital from July 1, 2001, to June 30, 2002. They were processed by the Automated System of Register and Control of Pathological Anatomy. The diagnostic criterion of the presence of the causal factor, the immunological disreactivity and the alterations in the different organs due to the manifestations of the multiple organ failure was applied. In the scoring system, an interval of values from 0 to 3 points was assigned to each of the morphological alterations that was multiplied by a coefficient preestablished according to expert's criteria to obtain the degree of intensity of every damaged organ. This way, the total by case was attained and the highest possible value was 42 points. The diagnosis of multiple organ failure was present in 45 %, the mild intensity degree was observed in 19 %, the moderate in 25 %, and the intense in 1 % of the studied cases. It was confirmed the usefulness of the scoring system applied as a method for the diagnosis of multiple organ failure and the need of its use to improve the quality of autopsy.
