Abstract

DELGADO GUTIERREZ, Dénise et al. Valor predicativo del comando volumen en la hemorragia intraparenquimatosa por hipertensión arterial. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2003, vol.32, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3046.

The high prevalence of arterial hypertension in Cuba and the high degree of functional incapacity and sequelae provoked by cerebral hemorrhages caused by it were the fundamental aspects that motivated us to carry out this research, whose main objective is to show the predictive value of the volume command of the computerized axial tomography (little used in the daily practice) in the hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage and to determine whether or not the volume of the hemorrhage is related to the initial clinical picture and the patient's quality of life at 2 months of evolution. To this end, 85 patients with CAT diagnosis of intracerebral hemorrhage of hypertensive origin were studied. First, it was registered the volume of the hemorrhage calculated by the software of the Somaton CR, in addition to the effect of the mass and the localization of the lesion. Later on, the initial neurological picture and the clinical evolution at 2 months were taken from the medical history. Karnofsky's scale was used to assess the quality of life of these patients. It was observed that 62.4 % of the patients were over 60. In this age group the higher the measured volume was, the higher the effect of the mass and the neurological deterioration were. These results were more significant in the hemorrhages of the basal nucleii. 100 % of the dead with lobar hemorrhages and basal nucleii presented volumes greater or equal to 25 cc, with a low score in Glasgow's scale (0 to 13). It was proved that the higher the volume of the hemorrhage was, the worse the quality of life was. It was concluded that the volume command has a great prognostic value on allowing to trace the quality of life at the 2 months according to average values of the volume for each localization.
