Abstract
FUENTES RODRIGUEZ, Nelson et al. Schwannoma lumbosacro maligno. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2003, vol.32, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3046.
The schwannomas are benign tumors, but the statistics refer that from 2 to 5 % of the cases experiment a malignant degeneration, which is extremely rare. The case of 65-year-old patient that started to have characteristic symptoms of compression of the cauda equina roots, is presented. Simple X-ray and myelography proved the existance of a tumor deformating the region. Laminectomy with sacrum opening, which was destructed and exposed a large tumor of gummy consistence, was performed. Resection was subtotal and it was characterized by a annoying bleeding that was difficult to control. The pathological diagnosis reported was malignant schwannoma. The patient despite the lumbosacral instability is asymptomatic and has neurological sequelae that disable her socially.
